Blood Tests
The 2 Major Blood Tests to Support Injured Tissue
The 2 Major Blood Test Inflammatory Indicators
1. C-Reactive Protein
2. Sedimentation Rate
Diagnostic Role: Objective test for injury and inflammation.
C-Reactive Protein:
• C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation.
Function:
• CRP plays a role in the immune system by binding to damaged cells and debris, which helps the body clear them away.
• It also activates other inflammatory proteins, which contribute to the body’s inflammatory response.
• CRP levels are measured in a blood test.
Interpretation:
• High levels of CRP indicate inflammation in the body.
Sedimentation Rate (ESR)
• The sedimentation rate, also known as the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), is a blood test that measures how quickly red blood cells (erythrocytes) settle to the bottom of a test tube.
Purpose:
• To detect inflammation in the body
• To monitor the progress of inflammatory conditions
Interpretation:
• A higher sedimentation rate indicates increased inflammation.
